One Year of Twisted Pines

Looking back at our first full year of releasing wine

January 2025 marked a pretty big milestone around here: Twisted Pines Farm & Vineyard officially released its first wines.

The winemaking itself had started well before that first bottle was released. There were grapes to grow, wine to make, plenty to learn, and more than a few experiments along the way. But January 2025 was when those bottles finally made their way out into the world — and Twisted Pines officially became a winery people could taste, share, and take home.

Our inaugural lineup included five wines, giving us a starting point and a whole lot to look forward to.

From five wines to fourteen

One thing we learned pretty quickly is that there isn't exactly a straight line from one vintage to the next. Every year brings different grapes, different ideas, and new opportunities to try something a little different.

By the end of that first year, those original five wines had grown into 14 unique wines in bottle.

Some were made from grapes grown right here at Twisted Pines. Others came from trusted Virginia growers. Some were familiar favorites, while others gave us a chance to experiment a little.

That's really what making wine at Twisted Pines is about: using what we've learned, trying new things, and making wines that are distinctly ours.

Returning to Where it All Started

Our first full year came full circle, as we returned to the festival where our wines made their debut - a place that holds a special spot in the Twisted Pines story: the Virginia Fly Fishing & Wine Festival.

Returning to the place where it all began just 52 short weeks later, with many lessons learned, advice taken, and adjustments made along the way, was a pretty great way to mark just how far we'd come.

And this is only the beginning

A year in and we're still learning. We're still experimenting. We're still finding out what works, what doesn't, and occasionally what happens when we decide to see what happens.

That's part of the fun.

The first year offered fourteen wines, along with a lot of new experiences, a few surprises, and plenty of reasons to keep going.

One year down. Plenty more to come.

And if there's one thing we've learned already, it's that the story of Twisted Pines is best served a little twisted.
